Langanes birdcliffs and ruins
About this tour
A journey through Langanes’ outdoor paradise teeming with birdlife on beaches, moorland, and cliffs. You explore remnants of ancient farms and deserted buildings.
Traveling in a comfortable jeep we visit the birding cliffs of Skoruvík together with a local guide.
In the spring, seabirds like Puffin, Guillemot, Razorbill and Northern Gannet lay their eggs in these cliffs. The Langanes peninsula has the third largest gannet breeding ground in the world. The seabird colonies you can spot here are spectacular!
Our first stop is at Puffin breeding ground, from there you walk past the cliffs to a viewing platform, which extends 10 meters from the cliff, from here you have a good view over Stóri Karl rock and it’s Northern Gannet colonie.
We drive on to Skálar, a fishing village abandoned by its inhabitants 50 years ago. Explore the ruins, the old harbor, the grazing sheep and imagine yourself in another time.
We spend some time here, before driving back while listening to more stories about the live that once was.
